The first Skidmark Skate Mag Local Produce Trade Show happened on May 14 in San Jose, Ca at The Lake Cunningham Skate Park. It was a day of skating, product hawking, music, food, and a visit by the park ranger.
Josh Mattson won the bowl contest and took home the $1000 first place moolah. (Brad McClain got a second; Mitchell Mendez got a third.) Here's Josh on the tail end of a stalefish invert. Imagine rolling up a wall backside, grabbing stale, hand standing on an invert, and then yanking it back in. Not many people besides Josh can even try it.
For me, the ranger was the highlight of the contest. He shows up late into the contest pissed off that people weren't wearing full pads. He tells Brad Mclain to put on elbow pads moments before his heat. Then the ranger paces around the deck huffing and puffing giving dirty looks to skate park employee Josh Balogh, who was judging the contest on his day off. After that, the ranger just kinda buggered off, and we never saw him again. Nor did we see Brad wearing any elbow pads.
