Assault skates sent me a 8" deck to demo. I took the board down to Fishbanks Skate Shop in Sunnyvale to grip it up and meet with some homies. I was pleasantly surprised by a new feeling under my feet.
I usually ride a board that is about an inch shorter with a steep nose and a steep tail. The assault deck has a longer nose and tail, which allows them to be less steep to reach the same height. A less steep tail changes the timing of your ollie a bit. The mellower tail hits the ground faster when popping an ollie making it easier to do quick ollies with just a flick from your back foot.
The board feels like a long deck but it rides like a short deck since it has a short wheel base of 14.125". The deck has Assault's Kreep concave, which is deep and feels good. Assault also offers a few punk point decks and an old school shape. You can check Assault's full line at www.assaultskates.com.
